Music Review // goodheart "Stuck in a Cloud"

While the music on "Stuck in a Cloud" can have this playful rock style to it, I really enjoy that the lyrics of this song can really make you think.  It begins with the lines: "I tihnk living alone is bringing me down / But whenever my friends are here I want to kick them out".   A lot of times, songs have a way about them that is the opposite of another way.  You can have a positive song, or a negative song.  You can have a song about how much you love someone or about how much you want to destroy their life.  But Goodheart has found a way in between that, into the grey area.

Not everything in life is so black and white, so I'm glad to hear someone singing about those mixed emotions which come in the middle.  Sometimes you feel stuck and you don't know why.  Sometimes you don't really feel good or bad, you just want to move forward and feel something.  This comes out in the lines: "Am I nearing the end or am I at the start", which is followed by the line "Could it be that the way we suffer is art" and that just opens up an entire debate about art and suffering (every time I do something mildly inconvenient I say I'm suffering for my art)

There is a sort of dark undertone to this song though, with lines like "Save the sad songs for the show / Maybe one day you'll hear them / At my funeral", but I still feel like we're somewhere in between, as the end lyrics state: "Either I'll be ok or I'll fall apart".   Sometimes fate can feel like it is out of our control.   Maybe it is, but I am a firm believer in at least having such things influenced by our moods and how we see life.  If you go through life being negative and thinking badly about everything, then you could be partly to blame when your life falls apart.  But if you have that positive energy, maybe things will turn around.

The toughest part of life is that you can do everything right and have a positive outlook but bad things will still happen to you because that's just life.  I think Goodheart can sort of push into that wave of thought because you have to think about being stuck in the middle and even if you have positive vibes, bad things can still happen.   This song reminds me a bit of Slothrust though as well, so I do enjoy listening to it and even if you don't want to think too deeply into, you can at least use it as a reminder to pick yourself up and pull yourself out of that rut every once in a while.
