Music Review // Joe Lapinski "I Know This"

"I Know This" begins with this fast paced rock n roll sound and then the horns slowly start to beep their way into it.  This all becomes so chaotic by the end, but it manages to keep the rhythm and remind me a bit of Elvis Costello.   There is an unpredictable quality to this song that I enjoy because from a rock n roll perspective it doesn't feel like it fits into a traditional mold and from note to note you're not really sure what to expect to come next.

One thing about this song is that Joe Lapinski repeats a lot of the words.   An example of this is in the lines: "And trust trust that that that that that / You'll be there there there there there / There when I fall / Fall fall fall fall fall fall"   At some point during the song you almost feel like it's been done and now it wouldn't be done again, so maybe the audio is glitching- and if you think older then you're listening to this on a record and it's like the record skipping so that's kind of neat.

Without the repeated words, the story told within this song says that "It's time to give into love and trust that you'll be there when I fall".  This then goes on to say that "I will be free / In this real love / I know / Feeling I'm alive".  This brings us to that whole feeling of just being in love and having everything in the world feel right.  And as the title says, sometimes you just have to know.

By the end the lyrics will say that "We'll dance / To the beat / The song will feel / Like it's on repeat", which is a nice sort of nod to the repeating lyrics within this song.  While Joe Lapinski has created this feel-good love song with "I Know This", it also is just a feel-good song in general.  No matter how you feel or what you're going through, hearing this song is likely to put you into a better mood.
