Music Review // Angela Saini "Puzzle Piece"

One of the biggest things in life that nobody tells you- or if someone does you don't hear it enough- is that it's okay to be different.  It's okay to feel like you don't belong.  All of us at some time or another have felt that way and it's not the type of feeling that goes away as you get older either.  So I like that this song feels like it can be directed towards children growing up and finding out who they are just as easily as adults who can still feel like they don't fit in.

Perhaps the biggest line in this song says "How do I become part of the bigger picture / When I don't even know myself".  This is tough for me because I feel like I learn by doing.  So how would someone know if they were good at or wanted to play soccer, for example, without getting in there and do it.  But then if you do it and don't like it, you're seen as a quitter when you're really just trying to find out who you are, what you like and what you dislike.

This song also says "Feel like you don't belong / It's hard to be yourself / Singing a different song / Than everybody else".  A lot of times I feel like we try to fit in and so we'll do things we don't want to do.  This is another thing we need to talk about more because it's better to have a small group of friends and do what makes you happy (like playing D&D) than having a large group of friends and doing something you don't like (such as sports, but I speak from personal experience there)

At that perfect intersection of rock and pop, Angela Saini has those stops where everything gets quiet for the line "I'm the missing puzzle piece".  In the year 2025 people seem to be more open about who they are and what they like.  Many of the things I was bullied for in school (like reading comic books) are now what some of the popular kids are doing.  But that's the point of this song: you can't live your life based on what other people are doing, you have to find out who you are and be yourself.
