Music Review // Miles Jenson "Sunshine Goldmine"
Both musically and lyrically, Miles Jenson has created a song in "Sunshine Goldmine" that can have you thinking. Musically, this song starts off with these big beats and it has soul. There is a little bit of a funky side to it as well, but it just has that overall vibe like Bruno Mars or Justin Timberlake only more complex. Keys come in to really show the diversity within the sound and in that way it can feel like it's close to being pop but also might not be for everyone.
Lyrically the idea of the "Sunshine Goldmine" is something whicb I don't feel is clearly defined but rather you could take from context clues to be what you want it to be. As the song begins with the lines "I'm in a sunshine goldmine / slipping in and going deep" I just think of the brightest possible thing you can possibly be in. But the lines "Now don't follow me, don't follow me too closely / You run the risk of a ricochet" really make me feel like this song is about taking medication to improve your mood.
The idea of seeing everything through those rose-colored glasses- just taking medications to improve your depression- is something that I can see this song being about. And the great thing is that maybe that's just what I'm reading into the lyrics and this could be about finding that jackpot of happiness in a different way for someone else. You can really listen to this and come to your own conclusions.
This music video feels like a short film and as the music builds to the chorus it just grows bigger. The overall vibes just feel like they're getting brighter- like the sun truly is shining more- as you get to the chorus. When you can have that relation between the lyrics and sound it just fits together so well and really makes for the perfect song. However you hear this one, add this to your rotation because it's definitely going to catch on.
