Music Review // We Found a Lovebird "Chet"

When "Chet" begins there is this very slow and prodding way about the song which carries throughout.  Though it is not easy to describe, it can be found in other artists outside of We Found a Lovebird but it is something whih only bands can do with their own custom sound.  So, as I hear something like Radiohead in the darkness, this still would be something Radiohead does in their own unique way while We Found a Lovebird puts their own brand on it.

The way this is delivered in sound feels very deliberate.  Every note striking through like another blow until the point is being made.  In some ways this makes me think of a slower Weezer song, but again, it's just about the style of the song while it has its own identity based upon who is singing it.  The guitar notes in here can also come out rather dreamy, somewhere between that Buddy Holly and Chris Isaak sound, and that makes this feel all the more intense.

I also enjoy that We Found a Lovebird has made this song because it has a certain way about it that you don't really hear as much any more.  Many artists who are in the guitar-based rock genre tend to want to have faster paced, catchy songs- closer to pop- where you can just sing along and get it stuck in your head.  "Chet" can get stuck in your head, but for a different reason.  Like a vivid dream, this song has all the makings of a dual in the old west.

Once you can adjust to this almost haunted sound you can begin to listen to the song and really hear the lyrics as well.  I especially like the emphasis on certain lines, such as how the lyrics repeat "Oh, the beach".   But I wouldn't worry about the lyrics right away.  Let this song sink in with you for a bit first, just truly experience and appreciate the music, and then begin to hear what the words are and take it to a whole other level.
