Music Review // Permilla "It Ain't Right"
"It Ain't Right" is a song that has a very catchy message to it, both within the music and the lyrics. When the song first starts, you can feel this pleasant quality about it and the voice of Permilla is a quality which should certainly bring in the listeners. What makes this sound so special is that even though it has that country twang to it, I don't feel like it has an overwhelming country sound and can be closer to a clean pop rock.
As someone who grew up with grunge, I feel like there is this self-deprication which comes with music and I'm glad that we're seeing more of a shift in the 21st Century. It's okay to have confidence and know your worth and Permilla shows both on this song. Lyrics like "How could you ever wanna leave me in the dust and get me out of your sight?" show exactly what it means to not only stand up for yourself but make someone else sit down.
One of the big themes of this song isn't just the idea of mistreating someone but also leaving them when they are the best thing that will ever happen to you. Just having that confidence of knowing that you'll go out and find someone better but he never will is something we need to embrace more in modern society. We need more songs that can help build ourselves up as a whole.
Whether you have been broken up with recently or a long time ago (or if it's still to come perhaps) this song just has a nice flow to it. In some ways it can make me think about Gwen Stefani. But even more than just the music, this is a message we can all relate with and hopefully you take it to heart and realize that you're better off and he will never be the same.
