Music Review // Meggi Faye "Moon & Back"
"Moon & Back" is a song comprised of two voices, an electric guitar, an electric bass and an acoustic guitar. This formula somehow makes this song very melodic and in that way it also feels comforting. Which is right on because the lyrics to this song is something that as either a child or a parent you should be able to take comfort in. The song begins with lines like: "It took all of the colors that used to be grey and it turned them into a rainbow that I get to look at every day" and it's obvious it's about another person who is special.
For a short time, you might hear this song and think about that someone coming into your life in a romantic partner way, but then lines such as: "She's giggling about something / Spaghetti in her hair" can be heard and you get the idea that this is a child. This is also followed up with that idea of markers being all over the walls, having to clean it up but not minding because you know one day you'll miss it. Being a parent really is such a special experience.
One of the only ways I can think of to best explain what it's like being a parent- how your life changes- is like when you learn how to drive a car. When I was a kid, I never remembered being concered with who was driving the car, but then as soon as I got old enough and started driving myself, when I was in the car with someone I suddenly became a backseat driver. It's just one of those things you don't fully understand until you do it for yourself, but hey, some people don't even ever learn how to drive and that's okay.
I really like that by the end of this song Meggi Faye has these positive words for her child, not just for right now but for the future. Lyrics like: "If you can't fight your fight any more I will come and fight for you" make it known that when you're a parent- a good parent- you're a parent forever and you'll always be there for your child. Even if you're not a parent, you could enjoy this song as a child, but if your parents weren't all that around then you can at least sit back and relax with the sound.
