Music Review // Niko Ceci "Outta Control"

 

When this song first starts it has this piano piece which takes us into the vocals.  There is something about the delicate side of it which makes me think of an artist like Michael Jackson for comparison.  As the song continues, beats come in to bring on this full popR&B sound.   This is a somewhat fast paced wild ride which can make you feel like you're part of a musical because you can imagine the act of spinning out of control while you hear the music.

The lyrics of "Outta Control" are about exactly what the title says.  With the lines: "All these voices in my head / Won't let me go to bed / I am spinning outta control" as the perfect example of that, this song is just about losing control.  Sometimes it might not be at bed time or it might not be the voices in your head, but I think we've all felt like this at one point in our lives and this song by Niko Ceci captures that perfectly, both lyrically and musically.

While Niko Ceci has this sound that could be some cross between pop and R&B it really needs to be noted that it doesn't sound quite like anything else out there right now.  I think of artists such as The Weeknd and Justin Timberlake as possible comparisons, but it just feels like that in a very broad stretch of a genre.  At times when listening to "Outta Control" I can even begin to hear some of The Rocket Summer in here, which makes it feel closer to elements of rock as well.

This music very much compliments the lyrics as it can make you feel like you're spinning.  Though this could fit as the soundtrack to a film or more specifically as a song from a musical, as far as I know it is not.  But that's okay because as this song is something with which I feel like we can all relate, it can just become more of the soundtrack to our personal and the next time you feel like you're spinning out of control you can put it on.
