Music Review // Georgia Scarlett & Joel Spence "Honey Let's Go"

 

"Honey Let's Go" begins with the sounds of banjos which makes me feel like we're somewhere between folk and Americana.   The sound can come out like Neil Young, but as both Georgia Scarlett and Joel Spence take turns singing during the verses and chorus, I feel like this might also be better compared to something currently on the radio such as Of Monsters and Men.  The way that the harmonies come out within this song is just something of pure beauty.  

During this song there are verses which somewhat explain the need to go.  This does feel very much like a conversation between two people and if you've never been somewhere with someone else and one of you wanted to leave but the other didn't then perhaps you need to get out more with different people.  I know that I have been in this situation, especially with my son a lot, who often times ends up going to places with me and always wants to know when it's time to leave.

Perhaps one of the best parts of this song is how it can feel like an argument- which feels like a strong word- but it is delivered in such a calming and respectful manner.  The chorus has Joel Spence singing the title of "Honey, let's go" while Georgia Scarlett echoes with a "But I want more".  In a spoken way, this could very much be a public argument where there is yelling and it just makes everyone uncomfortable.  But the way this sound just feels so comforting and natural, the way it contrasts that, is worth taking note of for when you might get into an argument one day.

Whether or not you feel like this is a song that has a story to tell, the way that it seemingly wraps up in the end just makes it feel even more special.   The last time that the chorus comes up, both of the featured musicians sing the title of the song, so it feels as if they are in agreement now and it is time to go.  I also feel as if there is some sort of understated brilliance in songs which can end with lyrics about leaving because it is fitting for the song to be over now that they're both gone.  It just seems to have everything so neatly put together as it reaches its final notes.
