Music Review // Robinson Kirby "End and the Start"

The sound of "End and the Start" begins with this smooth, funk, jazz type of way which I can't quite put my finger on.   It's easy like Sunday morning, as it just has this familiarity without sounding exactly like another artist.   The way it is at a steady pace and only ever slightly picks up a little bit before the end just shows how it can be something you can hear without being offended because it just seems so chill.

Robinson Kirby have this interesting idea of, as the chorus says, being "stuck between the end and the start".  If you are someone who likes to put things off, you know how difficult the start can be, but also just having the idea of actually starting something and then finishing it can be perhaps the most difficult.  I don't even want to begin to think about how many projects I thought were great ideas, started and then moved onto something else before ever finishing them.  One day I'm just going to take the time to sort of tie up all those loose ends.

While the idea of being between the "End and the Start" can feel frustrating, it also might not be the worst place to be.  Many of the lyrics in this song are about being inside of a car or on the road, and so to that extent I do think of this song as being about that time spent driving.  When you first start a roadtrip, it's fresh and the start feels okay.  When you're almost there, you have that same feeling.  While the in between can bring adventure, it can also be the toughest part to get through in some ways.

More so than just being in a car and driving, I think of this song as being about everything in life that is the "in between".  When we watch things such as television and movies, we rarely see those "in between" moments that make up a lot of our lives.   It's the way a scene can change from one place to the next, but in reality we have to actually spend the time to get there.   This song is about that and though you may not want to spend that time, I do feel like we are better for having it as it makes us appreciate the destination that much more.
