Music Review // Faiyaz and the Wasted Chances "Bleeding out"
"Bleeding Out" is a song which feels like it's from a certain time in the 1990's but with some modern touches. Right away the guitar patterns during the verses and chorus can go from clean to distorted and heavy, which makes me think of artists such as Nirvana and Local H. During the chorus there are some backing vocals, and so I feel like within this all is a bit of The Thermals as well.
This sort of grunge rock song by Faiyaz and the Wasted Chances does mention right away that they are bleeding out hypothetically. I feel like this is important to note in the lyrics because sometimes you can feel that pain of wanting to bleed out but you don't actually want to bleed out. You don't want to commit acts of harm against yourself, you just want people to know that is how you're currently feeling and that is okay.
People have often criticized artists for making songs about wanting to die, but I find it to be therapeutic. If you can imagine that idea and sort of live it out through the song but not in real life, then I do think it is helping. If nothing else, I feel like just the very idea that we're talking about such things is important because mental health should be more of a core issue people have. Everything around you seems to suffer when you're suffering, so we have to start within ourselves.
Perhaps one of the more interesting aspects of this song is that it clocks in at around a minute and a half, which is very much that idea of saying all you needed to say. I enjoy that it doesn't over stay its welcome by any means, but also this will give you more chances to listen to it and really let those lyrics sink in. Just as long as you hear the line: "I'm on the floor / You better close the door" and keep the door open because we always need to be talking about this.
