Cassette Review // Auditing "Modern Tension" (Tetryon Tapes)

There is a certain sound to Auditing that I really enjoy because overall it just feels like fuzzy punk. I feel like we're about to do the time warp again, as right awya I'm also reminded of Tora Tora Torrance. The distortion within this sound also has this certain hum or buzz in it, which feels distinct. As we go into the second song you hear lyrics like "We'll talk about it more after dark" and "Lean on my gun while I drink". This also comes out in a more psych / hypnotic way, which I want to fuse together into one genre word but I won't.
As we go into "Imperial Weight" there is more of a "Weird Science" type of punk sound, really channeling some Oingo Boingo even. "Cipher" has a lighter, more pop punk feel to it. "The Cure" can feel cleaner in the sound but also spacy. It reminds me of Superdrag to some extent, but then by the end of the song it just drops off into music.
"Dragnet Relativity" can feel more upbeat, closer to the first song in sound, and it can even bring up ideas of Devo. Each of these songs is about two minutes in length except for "The Cure" which is just over three minutes but also has a long musical refrain at the end there. In the sense of elaborate punk, I'd really like to hear more from Auditing because this really just feels like so much of what I love in a way I've not heard before.
