Music Review // G̱a̱mksimoon "Ḵ'ap Ha'yin"

When this song first starts, there are guitars which immediately make me think of an artist such as Motorhead or perhaps someone from that highway-driving-classic rock genre such as ZZ Top.  This changes a bit as it kicks in because it hits heavier and faster.  Closer to the idea of metal and punk, but also with that rock n roll and even a little bit of blues added in for good measure.  This is a very specific type of sound that fits right in with the punk community but really can be so much more.

If you can't tell by the name of the aritst or the song title, this is not in English but it does say the title in the chorus.  So what's fun about this is how music can go beyond barriers such as language.  You may not know enough of a certain language to hold a conversation with someone else, but you could fairly easily listen to this song and sing along with the line of "Ḵ'ap Ha'yin" when it comes up in the chorus.  This also translates to "flip over", so it works on a lot of levels right now if you're at all interested in overthrowing your government.

Along with the main vocals of this, there are backing vocals which can both go with the lead vocals but also at times echo them.  This is one of those small details people might not pick up on, but it's an aspect of punk rock that I think has been missed over time.  I don't feel like it's been done in such a long time, but it's a great way for you to have the listeners feel like part of your music because, in a live setting, they can also echo back the lyrics to you as the backing vocals do within the chorus of the recorded song here.

Whether it be Bullets & Octane (a name I do not hear mentioned often enough) or Ratas En Zelo, there is a certain way which G̱a̱mksimoon sounds, but it is also about the energy.   Throughout what I would say leans heavily into the punk though, there are a lot of technical aspects to the guitar work, especially a huge guitar solo in here as well.  These are some of parts which really make this song stand out and go to show you that you can play fast and shred at the same time.
