Music Review // Jont "You In The World"

Jont slowly strums an acoustic guitar and sings about topics that need to be discussed more on the song "You In The World".   There is a certain type of musician who can create songs where it doesn't just feel like the lyrics are there to rhyme or be catchy, but rather to tell a story and exist in a similar way to poetry.  This is how I feel about Jont.   I think of this as being a lot like poetry, but there is just something about having that type of voice where you need to sing it.  If I had a similar voice, I would certainly sing more.

To further that idea of how these lyrics can feel like poetry, there are the lines: "Fertility fecundity / Unfurling miraculously / The softest yolk that dreams the brightest sun".  While you can sing along with that, some people might not even know what some of those words mean, which can make it feel like you're speaking above them but I see it as a good chance for listeners to crack open a dictionary and do some research.  It's how we learn.

As the song comes together, there is the chorus of "We're all getting older / But I don't feel no older / Just feel closer and closer to my home".  One thing I think people don't talk about enough is that as we age, we can start to feel more comfortable with our bodies and just in general who we are.  Some people hit 30 or 40 and just say they're no longer going to care what other people think and, to me, that is when we become most free and our truest versions of who we are meant to be.

Overall this song has another chorus of sorts which says "Cause there's you in the world / I want to fly I feel so alive / There's work I want to do / And dreams I wanna make come true / But I'm alive yes so I shall shine".  I feel like this just ties the whole song together because it puts life into that perspective of being older but not dead yet and so you need to grab life more by the horns and just do everything which you wish to do every day that you can.
