Music Review // Dawson "maybe someday"
As this song begins with soft pop tones, it eventually kicks into these pop beats which feel chill. It doesn't feel like the bass of percussion kicks in as much as the bass of a guitar or synth and there is still this overall acoustic vibe about this sound. But the song itself is about hope and wondering, which is the way that the song sounds musically. It's not chill in the sense of indifference, but in the sense that this thing isn't happening right now but hopefully one day soon it will be able to happen.
Dawson tells the story about someone he met but it just wasn't the right time. This is told through lyrics such as: "Call me a beautiful person / But you needed more time". Rather than just keep the encounter as a memory and move on past it all, Dawson instead decides to hold onto the idea that this could all be something someday, which is not something a lot of people are willing to do in modern society- since we always seem to want it all and want it now.
There is one very specific part of this song where Dawson says "Take a look at us now" . This is a repeated line during the song, but at this one point it comes through in a glitch kind of way and the word "look" can go back and forth between your ears if you're listening to this one through headphones. This is one of those ways in which I feel artists can really establish themselves and stand out because having this sort of mellow pop song is one thing, but adding something like that into it, even as brief as it was, shows range and character.
While I don't really believe you should stockpile a bunch of people who you could potentially see yourself marrying one day (because this song isn't about that, it's about one person) I do think that if you find that one person who is special and it isn't the right time, then waiting for the right time would be worth it. But not only is this song about the hope of that happening, it is about the commitment to it as well. And life has a way of working itself out, so if you're truly meant to be together, life will find a way.
