Music Review // Youth Novel "I Went Through This Experience Smiling"

Every time I feel like there is a certain sound, a specific genre of music, that kind of gets lost over the years, I somehow seem to find it once again.  I'm not saying that this type of music hasn't existed since between the years 2000-2010, but it definitely feels like it wasn't as easy to find because a lot of bands went on hiatus and others just started making different styles of similar sounds.

Youth Novel takes me back to a time when I first heard The Hope Conspiracy, when they released their first album.  It's how aggressive this music is.  Parts hardcore and punk, but yet it can slow down and absolutely crush like metal.  Another band I really think of when I hear this is As Cities Burn, but I'm mostly familiar with their first album and haven't listened to any other albums as much.  So if you like that "Son, I Loved You At Your Darkest" era, this will hit hard for you as well.

When listening to this album I am also reminded of Old Gray, which is good since they don't make new music any more.  But you have to think about this album just based on the title, which also happens to be an acoustic / electronic instrumental song on here.  This can either be thought of as a positive attitude towards life, where you just won't let anything get you down or it can be like that guy in the movie who gets hit really hard and then just laughs it off.
