Music Review // Sleepkit "Oxygen On The Autobahn"

When you have a song and a music video that seem to equally line up, I really enjoy it but I also wonder if perhaps sometimes these images help shape how I hear the song.  Granted, the artist is presenting both these images and the sounds together, so this feels like what they want, but at the same time, it also feels like in this case the song might be different when listened without the video.

"Oxygen On The Autobahn" is this song which starts off instrumental but eventually has singing come in.   There are beats, it's trippy / psychedelic and at times the sounds can even be harsh.  There is that one sort of synth sound which comes through that you hear most in the Kill Bill song-- it always reminds me of that.   But what is this really?  Is it folk pop?  It is psychedelic rock?  Is it electronica?

I guess it depends on how you hear it.  This really feels like it could come from a time before the 1990's, like from a Talking Heads era, but then at the same time it feels like it could be from that 1990's going into 2000's era of music with someone like The Folk Implosion or even Moby to some extent.  But then I also think of current artists, or more recent any way, like Com Truise and just how well this sound would go with that alternative electronic scene.

At times those backing vocals come in with the ah's and the music video can send you driving and remind me of "Lost Highway".  But it's so fun to think about this takes these different genres and different eras of music really as well, and combines them for this completely weird and completely fantastic trip.
