Music Review // WAASH "Time To Let Go"
There comes a time, more often than not, in a relationship when it's time to say goodbye. WAASH have created a song here, "Time To Let Go", which discusses just that, as the chorus says: "I think we both know it's over". I like this because as much as it feels like a romantic relationship response it could also be used for something such as quitting your job. I just imagine singing some of these lines to my soon-to-be-former employer.
The completely fun thing about "Time To Let Go" is that even though this parting of ways seems like it should be a sad time, though the lyrics do imply it's mutual, the music is upbeat and feels more positive. There are elements of Pretty In Pink in here, as it has that retro-wave vibe, mixed with modern rock that's along the lines of synthwave, dreampop and underlying punk roots. It just has a very steady pacing to it.
While this song does seem to be a mutual break up, the fact that both of you can realize the same thing doesn't mean that it's not going to affect you in some emotional way, such as to make you sad. I really feel like thinking of this as a more goth song, like something The Cure or even Depeche Mode would've made, makes sense but the fact that WAASH has it sounding like this makes it even better than what you'd expect.
When you reach this point of a relationship, you've likely been through some hardships. You don't get to this point by having fun, so you can imagine the struggles. A depressive type of song seems like it would just add fuel to the fire, so I applaud WAASH for putting a positive spin on what can be a tough time. It may even be something you're putting off doing because of that, so perhaps this song can help you with its pleasant sound.
