Music Review // Jean Caffeine "I Don't Want to Kill You Anymore"

As soon as you press play on this song you can hear the dreamy rock n roll of an artist such as Buddy Holly coming through.   There was that whole revival of this type of sound back in the 2010's or so, which can be found attributed to a label that I think no longer exists, but you can look into artists like Hunx and Shannon and the Clams for a similar garage type of vibe.  For me, being a resident of Connecticut though, I hear a lot of Zoo Front within this song.

Lyrically this song is about exactly what the title says.  It doesn't seem as much of a literal threat as it does something you would think in your head about an ex who did you wrong.  It makes sense when you just feel like you're on the bad end of a break up and you can just picture different ways in your mind to torture and kill that ex.   It also just seems in a broader sense that anyone who has ever been done wrong by someone else can relate with this because maybe you wish harm upon that delivery driver who crushed your parcel.

I get a lot of music videos sent to me and I really do enjoy how people can be creative with the visuals that go along with the songs.  This video features footage of the band playing this song and at times you can see cats playing with their toys.  It's simple, but effective.  It goes a long way in showing you that you don't have to hire a crew and spend tens of thousands of dollars to make a music video.  I like that this feels like an old home video.

Through the pleasant sound and fun music video the most important thing about this song is that it's about letting go and moving on.  There was never an actual desire to kill someone else, it was just the hurt that you felt.  If you can agree with the title now then you'll understand that the hurt isn't as bad.    Jean Caffeine has crafted an anthem for getting over someone after a bad break up and if you need it, know that it is here.
