Music Review // Sabrina Monique "Run Back"

Through elements of dance pop, Sabrina Monique brings light to a subject that far too many people deal with but don't always talk about.   The lyrics for "Run Back" are about someone who keeps going back to someone else who is wrong and they know that they shouldn't be doing this.  I think we've likely all had that relationship that just went on longer than it should have for whatever reason and as such you should be able to relate with this song.

On the idea of running back to you, Sabrina Monique says "It's sad but it's true", showing that even she knows she shouldn't be doing this.  Perhaps the biggest realization in the song is the line "I know I don't mean a thing to you" and if you don't mean something to someone else than you shouldn't be going back to them. It becomes almost like an addiction in a way and is definitely a habit which needs to be broken.

This song isn't all about the negatives though because it does say "I miss the old you", showing that at one point the relationship was good.  It just hits that point where it turns bad and you know you should leave but you stay because of what it used to be.  A lot of life can be like that- not just love- but if you're in a romantic relationship and waiting for things to go back to the way that they used to be, odds are that they won't and it's time for moving on.

A video game style car is seen driving during this lyric video.  For some reason, on social media now when people post videos they have half of the screen full of their content and the other half can be a video game such as this.  I'm not sure why they do it, but that's what this reminds me of visually.  Musically I think about Jennifer Lopez and how there aren't really a lot of artists out there creating this clean style of pop music that you can dance to, especially while burning bridges.
