Music Review // Maria Ellis "Lucky"

As this song begins with pianos and strings, I can feel that the vocals come in somewhat like a Demi Lovato song.  It's big, cinematic and just feels like it could take up an entire amphitheater.   This song is meant to fill a room and then some, played loudly and appreciated for the intensity and sincerity that comes with the tones of it.  Building louder with repeating lyrics in the chorus, this is a song which you will eventually find yourself singing along with.

These lyrics are about finding that person who makes you feel like you are the lucky one.  One example of this is when they say "I've been trying my whole life to be perfect / But I can't always get it right / But you make me feel like I deserve this".   Just having that appreciation for someone, and also feeling appreciated, are things which I feel like some might take for granted but are highlighted in this song.

Sometimes it's not even just about having someone who appreciates you, but someone who truly gets you.   This comes out in the lyrics "I keep shutting down / Everything inside makes me feel so anxious / Why do you know me better than I know myself?"  In the same way that we want people to see us as being perfect, there is also that idea that we are not perfect but they can find ways to compliment us to make up for what we lack.

Far too often in relationships I think people just want to see the good in them- in their personality and in their looks.  But as this song, "Lucky", uncovers we are also supposed to realize those flaws in each other so that we can help to remedy them.  Being both accepted for who we are and more importantly for who we are not but who the other person can help us to be, truly makes those who can feel this way lucky.
