Music Review // David Simard "Cowboy in St-Henri"

David Simard has created a song which has this country feel to it.  I imagine people dancing the way you would at a line dance, but slower as this has a more moderate pace.  Within this country sound though, which can remind me of Willie Nelson, I can also hear artists such as Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and even Neil Young come out.   Before the end of the song there is a musical bridge where the guitars hit this driving pace and just goes to show how much more this song is than country.

Throughout this song a story is being told and while details come out, such as the man being older than the singer, there isn't really a good way to takes line out of the song as lyrics to relate with because it feels like you just need to hear all of the words together for it to make sense.  Once you hear all of the song, you'll hear the story and quite frankly I don't feel like we have enough artists out there right now using their music to create stories.

One of the pieces of information I like about this song as well is that "St-Henri" is not pronounced like the name "Henry" and you can hear that in the singing.   As an impressionable youth growing up, I feel like I learned a lot from music about how words are pronounced and spelled, so to be able to have something such as this come through in this age of technology fees extra special.

Even if you're one of the strict people who flat out claim to dislike country music, and knowing that this is about a cowboy inside of a bar so it has those properties, I think that there is a greater good to this song.  Yes, it has a country sound to it, but it's so much more than that.  It's a story being told that's bigger than the sound and for that reason this song is a lot of fun and people should be listening to it regardless of what genre of music you enjoy.
