Movie Review // Blood Bitch Baby (2024)
Some interesting notes about this film before we get into what it is about. I purchased this on Blu-Ray from Valoria Video, which it was a pre-order at the time, and now it has since sold out there. However, it has been up on the Blood Sick Productions site (and even was up before this pre-order) and it is also up for pre-order on MVD. I recommend getting this from Blood Sick, but the strange doesn't end there.
As someone who found out about this movie because of both the star and the director, it is interesting that this film cannot be found in the credits on the IMDb pages for neither Jessa Flux nor Donald Farmer. But, Jessa Flux and Donald Farmer have a history of working together, so any time you get them together to make a film I'm going to watch it. I also really am just enjoying Donald Farmer as a director right now and have been seeking out films related to him somehow, maybe in the same realm but not involving him directly.
This film begins with a couple, half of which is Jenny (played by Angel Nichole Bradford, who is just so much fun to watch in this) and she is being both physically and verbally abused by her boyfriend. All her boyfriend wants is for her to bring home money, but when she's going out for a job interview she tries to explain to him that even if she gets the job she still won't bring home money that day. Eventually, this dude dies and I think that no one was sad at this part of the film as it was long overdue.
When Jenny goes for her job interview, she meets Elizabeth Bathory, who has her own history and backstory, who is played by the always wonderful Jessa Flux. Not to get too much into the mythology here, but this film features that type of witchcraft you can come to love from horror films mixed with a lot of blood and, yes, even some nudity. There is one scene where Jessa Flux is on top of Angel Nichole Bradford, explaining what is happening, and all I can think is how Jenny should've said "I don't know what you're talking about I can't stop staring at your breasts".
There are characters in here which are trying to stop everything from happening, and one of them is even a professor who seems to have that book knowledge of what's going on. As much as I appreciate that sidekick character who is just looking for money and a couch to crash on (who is also in here) I also like when they have those characters who are flipping through pages of books frantically while searching for answers.
One character in "Blood Bitch Baby" is also this zombie-like guy who I know is not played by Ethan Suplee but very much reminds me of Randy from "My Name Is Earl". From that supernatural feeling, to the comedy, to the scenes where an eye is ripped out with teeth and eaten, "Blood Bitch Baby" feels like a step above a B Movie as it has a certain amount of lore to it but also it just feels like it has a bigger production value than it probably does as well. If you are a fan of the occult or just enjoy films that can be bloody, then strap yourself in for this ride.
