Music Review // Firerose "Love Knows How"

When the song "Love Knows How" begins there are these soft pop sounds which you can hear on the radio.   Beats come in to fill it out, but then it really kicks in with these distinct beats and drum claps.  The way that this sounds when everything is on just feels like something you've probably heard on the radio before but at the same time new elements make it that much different.  It has a bold sound, which listeners should gravitate to if they are hearing it for the first time.

Lyrically this is a song about heart break and what comes after that.   Beginning with the lyrics: "So this is how the thread comes undone" sets the stage for the heart break to start.  By the time we get to the chorus, the lines begin: "We all need a new heart sometimes / If they tear it out / Maybe take some time" and it's just interesting to think about how having your heart broken should come with time after to rebuild it and yet sometimes we don't always take that time.

There is also a lyric which sums this all up quite well that says: "So this is how we build and mend".   While there are seemingly a lot of songs out there about breaking up, many of them deal with the sadness or anger which comes from the break up.  There are also songs that come after the break up but once the person has moved onto someone new.  "Love Knows How" feels like it hits that spot in between there- which isn't talked about enough- when you are healing.

This music video takes place in nature but there is also painting going on.  By the end, the completed painting is revealed to be this heart with gold wrapping it up like the way you would stitch something back together.  It feels symbolic of the heart being put back together, but I also am reminded of the art of Kintsugi just the same.   Visually this music video could serve just as much as a healing helper as the song itself so put them both on and let your journey begin.
