Music Review // Monique Angele "Thank You"

Monique Angele has such a powerful way of creating a sound on "Thank You" that is really made up of only two components: vocals and piano.  Sometimes the piano can be that dominant instrument in a song with other instruments behind it, but "Thank You" is a song that Monique Angele (or someone equally as talented, not me) could sit down at a piano and just begin playing while singing their heart out.   I actually would like to see it happen in just random places with pianos, where people might not know what to expect but then they're blown away.

These vocals are huge and throughout the song they just climb to near operatic heights.  The piano compliments them perfectly and this is just not the type of song that you hear because it's closer to classical music than pop, but it is still that type of song we should all try and sing along with in the safety of our cars while alone.  It is so bold, with such an important message lyrically that it doesn't get lost in the music.

At first you might listen to these lyrics and wonder how this is going to be a song about thanking someone when it is seemingly about a bad break up, with lines like: "You think I'm stupid / I know what you're about".  Perhaps one of the most difficult aspects of life is gaining the experience that we need to learn from and not make those same mistakes again.  So by going through relationship where she was mistreated, Monique Angele has that knowledge now of signs of what to look for to not ever have to feel that way again- which is good, though having to go through it to get to that point is not preferred.

The chorus comes in with the lines: "Thank you for making me stronger / Thank you for making me better".   This song really does see the best in situations, which is also a way I like to live life.  If you see things as negative all the time, you'll never truly learn and grow.  As humans, we're allowed to make mistakes, but the only real mistake is if we don't learn from these experiences.  With this charging force, "Thank You" is a way of not only making the most of a bad time, but also just turning negative things in life into positives so you can ultimately become the best version of yourself.
