Music Review // HOL1DAY "Veridream"

 

When this song begins with the big synths floating through the sky, you can feel where it might be headed.  "Veridream" takes you onto a different level of not just music, but of life.  The same way in which you can watch a movie or read a book and escape from reality for that time, HOL1D4Y builds a world around music that you can feel yourself becoming a part of, escaping from your reality and into the reality of this song.

With steady guitars this can remind me a bit of Queens of the Stone Age, in a modern sense, but there are also some classic rock vibes within here, like Pink Floyd perhaps.  The music video which goes with this song also feels a bit trippy with the way it is layered and just the colors can make it feel like a different experience from reality.  While I do feel like you could go down this rabbithole into another world with the music alone, the video definitely enhances that experience.

As HOL1D4Y takes you into a world quite different from your own, the lyrics are also something you might not understand.  The lines "Gently passing time / Hands of time unwind" make sense, but they don't feel like they have context within the rest of the song.  However, there is an album coming out on September 25th called "Topology" and I feel like maybe in the scope of the entire album this song will make more sense lyrically, as the entire album might tell the full story.

The lyrics of this song- when I'm not quite sure what they mean- make me feel like I'm in a sci-fi movie, like something Kubrick would have done.  Lines in here such as "See yourself just like they see you" are easy enough to understand, but who are they?  This sound is really something everyone should be diving into, but at the same time the idea of lyrics which might confuse you and don't feel so direct make this song even more appealing to me.
