Music Review // Michael Antelope "Bridge Over My Head"
As soon as this song begins you can feel the acoustics coming through which just make it so enjoyable from start to finish. There are two sets of vocals here, sometimes singing at the same time, and in the way that it feels like it's all coming out on the acousitc guitar, it can feel like the song very much in touch with nature. It just has that natural way about it because it feels like you could set up and play it anywhere.
While this song has lyrics which say: "You never share how you feel" there is also a line later on that says: "You made yourself a place in my arms" so it just feels like the idea of this bridge being over your head is to protect the both of you even though you may not be as forthcoming with each other as you like. And I think that is a part of life, where sometimes we only get to know so much about another person, as they're only willing to show us what they want to, but we don't have to push them away because of that.
Another line in here that I really like says "Sleeping the way the night intended". Most people don't really think about how we used to live in a time without things such as clocks and alarms. Especially thinking back to the days of farmers, it would be just waking up when it was light out and you could get your work done and going to sleep when you were tired. I really wish we still had this mentality because I feel like there are far too many people out there who don't know what it's like to wake up because you no longer feel tired.
In that same way that this feels like getting back to our roots with times before technology made everything better but also worse at the same time, I think the acoustic nature of this song just puts an emphasis on that earthy tone. It is within this idea of the sound feeling simple that life can also feel simple in the same ways, but yet both things overall can still remain complex even if it doesn't seem like it.
