Music Review // Lozen "Soul Path"

The music of Lozen comes out right away with these beats, which are upbeat, and I can't help but think about hip hop of the past.   During the chorus, I am reminded of a more modern artist such as Twenty One Pilots, but during the verses and when the lyrics flow more freely I am thinking of TLC and just that era of music when you could hear them and Salt-N-Pepa on the radio.  That sound just seemingly disappeared from the radio and no one talks about it.

While this sound can take you on a journey, so can the lyrics.  Right away this song says "Fucked if I know the way" and I think we all, at some point or another, have felt lost in this world.  The chorus says "Soul path / Becoming nobody" and I think that is actually something more people need to really think about in this life.  Whoever you are and whatever you do, you're so much more than that.  If you're the local cashier at the grocery store, some people might see you only as that, because that's the only time they see you, but you must be more than that.

By truly finding yourself, I believe you must become nobody.  You can't be the person known for that thing, because then you get put into that box of what you do and don't do.  But people are more than that.  Becoming nothing, becoming no one, will truly set you free and allow you to live your fullest life because you won't feel like you are inhibited.  You don't ever want to feel like you're too cool for something because then  you might be missing out on experiences you might otherwise enjoy and cherish.

Many of these lyrics should be studied if you're interested in finding that peace, but I do enjoy the lines "Call it fate no escape, all the signs so divine / Ancestral healing I am feeling bloodline / Transmuting triggers into treasures now everything is fine".  I think that idea of turning triggers into treasures is about making the most out of life.  When you're older, you won't always tell the stories of the good times and you especially won't tell the stories of the times you simply stayed home.  But if you have those experiences, even if they're bad, and you retell them as you're older, they become a learning part of you that also becomes good.
