Music Review // 2ŁØT "Lose My Mind"
Not only does 2LOT seem to provide the much needed electronic music of this time, but they seem to just bring a sort of energy other artists are not. I'm always taken back to that 1990's rave culture when I hear 2LOT, something like out of the film "Go", and this latest single "Lose My Mind" is no different. It's heavy and it will hit you hard at the same time, as it can begin with this bass line and then turn into steady beats of the drum. At one point the bass and drums go back and forth, almost battling against each other, before things get distorted. By the end of the song everything just grows so much more complex musically.
One of the things which I like about this song is that it will almost immediately get stuck in your head. The way that the chorus says "Watch me lose my mind" I imagine people dressed in baggy pants, wearing body paints and wielding glow sticks singing along with before the song even ends. This song is an entire experience in itself, but yet it feels like it can be so simple. Just get out there, dance, and as long as you know the title of the song you can sing along and get the vibe. Having that simplicity which can be easily relatable on the surface but actually feeling much more complex and deep underneath seems to be the way of 2LOT.
To think of this song as if it was released back in the late 1990's it wouldn't have been a different vibe simply because saying "Lose My Mind" just meant something different. Thinking about it in terms of how you want to get out on the floor and dance to this, you could imply that idea of losing your mind on the dancefloor- just dancing like you've never danced before and like no one has ever seen done before as well. But now, maybe some thirty years later, it's difficult to listen to this song, knowing the title and not think about mental health and if the person singing this is okay.
I don't think it's that people were bad back then, it was just a different time. Mental health wasn't something we talked about as much, especially not as much as it seems to be just out there for people to discuss in this day and age. But it's definitely good that we've made that progress, so whether you feel like you are losing your mind in the sense of just wanting to get out and dance or if you actually need to speak to a professional (or just a friend) about it, this song could be your way to express that and make whatever solution you need possible.
