Music Review // The Out Seer "Changes"
The Out Seer begin the album "Changes" with a short instrumental song called "Nitro". This takes us into the more aggresive song called "Otherside (F.R.E.D.)" which is about not wanting to be the other person in a bad relationship. There is a line that says: "I don't want a life like this / And I'm okay with what I miss" and sometimes you just have to walk away. "Iced Tea" is a more mellow song with some upbeat pop to it. The drama continues on the faster paced "Nails", which is more intense and has a big musical ending.
One of the more haunted songs on here comes next and is called "Wait". The lyrics discuss just having the patience for a better life, and in many ways this album is about seeking a better life, but it is through these pianos that send chills down my spine. If you listen to this song closely enough with headphones on you'll also hear faint backing vocals in the chorus that almost feel like they're singing a different song. This is just a fine example of the layers that can be found on this album by The Out Seer.
There are a lot of words in a short period of time coming out during "Echo Beach", and maybe it's also just because it is about a beach but it reminds me of peak Sublime. The song is about working a 9-5 job you don't like but dreaming about being back at the beach, which is something we can all relate with for sure. This also sets such a nice tone for the album because the theme seems to be about longing for something more than what it is you are doing right now, just that hope that knowing things will get better.
During the course of our lives we're going to have moments where we are doing one thing which we feel like we are obligated to do (such as work a job to pay the bills) but there will be something else which we would rather be doing. The album "Changes" isn't just about that want but it's about taking action and realizing that staring out of a window and wishing won't make a difference. Making these changes all also happen to come with this guitar and piano driven sense of musicianship that should be studied for years to come.
