Music Review // Terra Renae "Lights Down Low" (Acoustic)

"Lights Down Low" is the first song on the EP "All I Have" by Terra Renae and being a lead off track I feel like the song has to have a certain energy, a certain boldness to bring the listener in for the rest of the songs.  Maintaining those qualities while being stripped down to an acoustic version of the song might not seem possible, but Terra Renae makes it look easy.

Though this song is about how what these two people share is more than just love, the chorus does have certain suggestions as it states: "I'll be waiting with the lights down low when you get home tonight".   This might not be as in your face or blatant as the lyrics of, say, Salt N Pepa or a modern artist along those lines, but as brash as they might feel in an electric sense, in an acoustic sense it comes with all the warmth of a whisper.

With the acoustic guitar comes other sort of orchestra strings behind the chorus which can make for quite the harmony.  There is still an acoustic guitar solo in here and what impresses me the most about this song perhaps is that everything about the way it feels as it's soft and non-threatening just seems like a ballad, but yet at the same time the tempo of it just seems to disagree and it doesn't fully come across as one.

One of my favorite things about music is that it can feel like it is open source in the way that songs can be remixed and recreated.  This could be the song that is your introduction to Terra Renae or you might have heard it open up the "All I Have" EP, but either way you're going to end up on this adventure where you have two different versions of the same song, which doesn't really make one better than the other because they are both different.
