In the modern era of rock n roll we do seem to be losing a lot of what could be considered influenced by classic rock. We don't have those bands any more that will play house parties and jump off of the roof into a pool. Luckily, DeeOhGee has come out with a new single called "49-50" and it's all that ripping goodness that you would expect from Led Zeppelin or the James Gang. It's something being released on this very day, as I type this, but also could fit so well within that time period which now seems like so long ago.
With these killer guitar riffs that just shred, DeeOhGee also has a bit of the fuzzy guitars which can also bring out some of that blues sound. This is just full on rock n roll cranked up to 11 with such high energy that it's difficult not to find something to like about it. This is that type of song you will clearly want to play loudly- maybe to upset your parents or maybe just to take you back to a time when you did play songs like this to upset your parents but perhaps now you are a parent.
To go along with the idea of this song being from a different time, DeeOhGee has also released this as part of the Buy Before You Stream program, which means you head on over to their site, buy the physical record (a 7" now, but a 45 for those who know) and just listen to the song the same way people would have walked into a record store and bought music back in the day before streaming. I definitely fully embrace and support the idea of buying physical media over streaming, but it also strongly feels like "49-50" is a song perfectly crafted for just that.
Lyrics such as "Ain't been sleepin' right / Since I ain't been with you" will give you all of the feelings of what rock n roll once was and quite frankly what many would argue it was meant to be. If you long for the days when rock n roll was better or just never had the chance to know, well, now you can find out. Head on over to the Buy Before You Stream site and get this record to experience the full power of classic rock n roll in a modern environment.
