Music Review // Frank Mighty "Been Done"

 

Whenever I think I have just the best idea ever, I'll head over to Google and search to see if it's been done before and most of the times it has.   Frank Mighty confirms this as well, with the line in the chorus which says "Get in line / It's already been done".   To that end, I say that having a song about it all having been done already has also been done (by Barenaked Ladies) just to kind of show you how deep this one goes.

With some synths to start this song takes on an upbeat pop rock feel, along the similar lines of Neon Trees, AJR and even The Rocket Summer.  It can be catchy but it also just feels light, as does the nature of the lyrics.  This is just the type of song you would put on and dance around to without a care in the world.

Part of the reason why you also might not care is because this song seems to take on that mentality of even though it's all been done before, who cares, whatever you're going to do- do it anyway.   There's a line that says "Pay your rent with hope the housing markets crashing / Everyones gone broke or a joke or a has been" and it just feels like it kind of ties everyone together in this way where we're all in the same boat to some extent so even if you feel like what you're doing has been done, just do it.

Now, I'm not saying that if someone has created a song before to rip it off (but you can create a cover) but it's more along the lines of how the lyrics say: "Everybody goes to Berlin when they’re young though".  Thinking of things in the way of everybody else doing them so you shouldn't because you don't want to be cliche or what not is just standing in your own way.  Sometimes you just have to let loose and do what you truly want to do.
