Music Review // Clare Perrott "Biting On The Hand"
Through winding guitars and sounds which can feel like a banjo, Clare Perrott takes us through a journey of sound that is somewhere between rock, folk and country. When you think about the idea of all the time people have spent making music and just how much of it is out there, it becomes easier every time someone makes a new song that have it float between genres without actually being in one. While there are elements of country music within this song that people will enjoy, there is also just a strong folk and rock vibe as well.
Perhaps it is the way in which this sounds like a group effort that also makes me think of it being more toward folk and country than rock. I am reminded of artists such as Sheryl Crow and Counting Crows while listening to this song. I think less about one person making this song and more of a group of people all sitting together, playing their different instruments and singing along. Having those ideas just makes me think of someone saying to just bring over your instrument and jam.
The idea of this song being a group effort also comes out when we get closer to the end. The music quiets and a "1-2-3-4!" is let out by more than one person. This goes into a guitar riff which feels more electric than the song has up until that point. This is also one of the reasons why I just imagine not only people getting together to sing this song in the sense of it being recorded, but also in the way that performing it live can draw a crowd.
One of the lyrics in here that I realy like says: "I hope I change to something you crave". It feels so important on so many levels that we have this mentality of not changing to become what we think someone wants us to be, but rather we should hope people accept us for who we are. This is true in the aspects of love and relationships, but you can also just think about it in a musical sense because artists shouldn't create a sound they think people want to hear. If you don't like this song, maybe a future song Clare Perrott makes will sit with you, but this song is really a lot of fun.
