Music Review // In Your Walls "Men From Mars"

In Your Walls bring out a concept not talked about as much as it should be in the pop punk type of song "Men From Mars".   The chorus to this song, singing about the "Men From Mars", says that they're taking away the cars because "They think it's strange we're burning dinosaurs".  I, too, think it is strange we are burning dinosaurs because that seems like such a finite way to do things, in the sense that eventually we're going to run out of fossil fuels and then what.

This song does also offer up the idea of riding an electric scooter and I'm not sure why using electricity hasn't become more popular with cars and just everything.  Not to get too deep into it, but it feels like the ways which we can harness elements like the sun and wind and then turn around and use those for energy are far more efficient than relying on a supply which might soon dry up.

While this is a pop rock type of sound it can also lean towards being punk at times as well.  I'm reminded of an artist such as Letters To Cleo from the past, but also more current bands like Weakened Friends and Cinema Stare.   It just has that overall sound which can be both easy on the ears but also catchy.  I think a lot of songs about real issues such as this should have more of those sounds because maybe getting the song stuck in your head is how we make change,

"Men From Mars" is a really fun rock song that can just be listened to without thinking too deeply about it and enjoy it.  But it is also difficult to overlook the lyrics, especially if you listen enough times and wonder what was said about dinosaurs.   This will hopefully open up some conversations which are being had but definitely need to be had much more.
