Music Review // Terra Renae "All I Have (Acoustic Sessions)"

Following the release of the album "All I Have", Terra Renae is back with a three song acoustic EP that features acoustic versions of songs from that full length.   This definitely makes me think of a different time in music, one where physical media was more prominent.  An artist would release their album as just the songs intended for it, but then they'd also release an "extended" version, which could be a record or double CD-- something along those lines.  I know this still happens today, I just wished it happened more.

If you've been listening to Terra Renae and enjoy what you hear, then this will be a treat for you.  I enjoy how this feels like it can both highlight the guitar quality of these songs but also the voice of Terra Renae at the same time.   The idea that this is stripped down should not be mistaken with the idea of it being "simple" because even though it is reduced to two core elements, there are still complexities within both of those elements.

One of the hidden treasures of this EP is that it can also take you back (if you were there before) to a time when MTV did their "Unplugged" series.  I know that there are several different YouTube channels that will take on an acoustic series much like MTV once had, but I'm not sure why one channel hasn't kind of dominated it and given us more both well known and lesser known artists unplugged.   I've always missed that generation of artists that came after "Unplugged" and so we won't get those performances.

So whether you are a fan of Terra Renae already, enjoy bonus features on your music, long for the past when MTV played music or just some kind of combination of those things then this EP is for you.  I also feel like if you've never heard Terra Renae's music before this could be a nice introduction.  The music, acoustic, feels light and beautiful, with the last song being "Party In The Sunshine".  Even though it is moving closer to winter here, it is nice to feel that sense of warmness from these songs.
