Music Review // FIREROSE "SHINING ARMOR (RISE AGAIN)"

Firerose has not only created a song which has lyrics that can be taken as an anthem, this song can also very much musically feel like an anthem.  There are big, cinematic elements to it as it boils into pop.   With the piano building up, creating a quieter more focused sound, and then just driving the point home when needed as well, this is the type of song that you will pay attention both in listening to the music and also in understanding the lyrics.

"Shining Armor" is the story as the lyrics tell of "My silence to protect him / My hope that he'd change / But love like that stays bound in chains".  Whether the abuse is emotional or physical, when you are in that situation it is best not to be as soon as you can get out of it.  If you think that maybe he's hitting you because he's upset he doesn't have a job but when he gets a job it'll stop, it is not a normal reaction so it likely won't stop.

This music video is set mostly in front of the Statue of Liberty and I think it's because the song not only is about wanting to be free but if you think of how people left their countries to come to the United States, so must you leave this abusive relationship to better your life.  And sometimes when you're in these situations, other people might tell you that it's not so bad.  Maybe your mom says that he has a good job and you can't do better.

Having that mentality, the idea of this song having that theme of "My knight in shining armor was me" is so important because perhaps no one else is coming to save you.  And furthermore to that extent, sometimes even if other people do tell you the relationship is bad for you and you should leave, you might not take it to heart because you sometimes have to realize it for yourself.  Sometimes you are the only one who can save yourself.
