Music Review // 2LOT "Entropy The Abert Harvey Mix"
If you are familiar with the musical artist 2LOT and their album "Entropy", you will know that a lot of electronic energy comes with it. A lot of that same energy feels like it's being kicked up a notch as these four songs are being remixed by Albert Harvey. Having a song that is in the rock genre remixed is one thing- the band Bush did a remix EP recently- but to turn that existing electronic music into another layer of electronic music isn't easy because sometimes the changes might not be as obvious and just overall the remix sound can still feel like the original because they carry the same vibes.
The beats are steady in this one and I usually compare electronic music such as this with a number of different films which contain it. I'm not sure this is the exact soundtrack to the movie "Run Lola Run" or "Go" though. I'd like to think of these songs as being more along the lines of someone out driving fast to a club, then by the end of the EP they enter the club where everyone is dancing, they start dancing too and the EP repeats.
One thing that I've always loved about music growing up with physical media is how you could get b-sides and remixes on cassingles and CD singles as well. I miss those days and I miss when artists added more than just rough cut demos to their existing albums. More artists should partake in remix EPs such as 2LOT has done here, whether or not they are part of the electronic type of genre. Having that album of ten to twelve songs but then adding on a few more as sort of bonus content is something I really miss in a world of digital music.
Musically this can overall be carried by the percussion but that also can include cymbals. At times it can feel more musically heavy, to the point where you can listen to it and not really hear the lyrics because your focus is on the rhythm. But as the last song says: "Don't let it pass you by / Arrow of time" you should not only be listening to those beats but also the words as they can contain some solid life lessons. So while this may feel like a good EP to dance the night away to, it also feels like you should be reading those lyrics the next morning.
