Music Review // S.G. Sinnicks "Miss America 2.0"
If you look at this song title and don't hear the song, you will likely think that it is about the beauty pageant we have in the United States to crown Miss America. We also have "Miss Universe", which I always thought was funny because we're only involving species from one planet. In any case, this isn't about the ideas of superficial beauty and rehearsed lines... Well, it's not about beauty pageants any way. When S.G. Sinnicks sings about "Miss America" it is in the way that you miss something because it's forgotten.
It's hard not to feel political when listening to this song as it outright sings about America and a country divided. What I find funny is that as we are in the weeks following the Presidential election, we, as a country, have elected Donald Trump (again). Now, regardless of how you feel about any of this, and without trying to open a huge can of worms, you have to at least admit how strange it is that we are often pit against each other as "Democrat vs. Republican" but even members of the Republican party don't like Donald Trump.
This song manages to sum up something I've always felt and what I guess you could say are my political leanings. The lines: "Too many weapons and too short a fuse / And everybody's working harder for the benefit of so very few" should ring clearer now more than ever. The United States has done a fine job of making working class people fight against each other so we ignore the real struggle, which should be the battle of us vs. them. Both sides should be fed up with this by now.
Whether you want to start an entire political movement (please do) or just want to hear a song that isn't quite country but has those organs/keys which are somewhat like The Wallflowers or The Gadjits, then you definitely should listen to this song. If you don't feel the need to do some internal retrospection on this song, just play it around people and get that feeling going again where we can at least all agree that those with the most money should not have the most power.
