Music Review // Kylie Fox "Flush"

Kylie Fox has this great sound which puts rock up against jazz and it just feels like something new.  I know that back in the 1990's there was a time when Edie Brickell & New Bohemians came on the radio.  While these sounds are not exactly the same it does give that feeling to me of this being something new but made up of familiar pieces.  Kylie Fox just has such a great way of creating unique music that blends genre and this song even has a saxophone solo in it by the end.

What I like about this song is that it's a love song but it feels like both people involved are on the same level.  The first lines are: "He's a bit flush / Probably cause he's excited to see me" and then later the song says "He makes me blush / Probably cause he knows what song he should send me".   So even though the lyrics do say "Oh no I think I'm a bit obsessed with him", this doesn't feel like it's one-sided but is rather a song about two people who are madly in love with each other.

This music video just makes me wish someone out there was still doing what MTV did back in the day and played music videos for all the world to see.  There are these lines that say "Probably cause I'm making him eggs / He's feeling my legs" and at that point in the video you can see those things happening.  What's great is that the "he" in this video is a puppet, who by the end is playing the drums with the band.

So while this song does feel like two people in love, the idea of one of them being a puppet makes it feel more like perhaps this is someone describing their perfect partner and what that relationship is like as opposed to being a part of it.  It could go either way, so it just depends on what your situation is.   But this is a song which needs to be heard with a music video that also needs to be played for generations to come.
