Music Review // 2LOT "Entropy"

The definition of entropy says it is the disorder or randomness within a system.  I think this is funny because even if it is disorder or randomness, if there is a system then at least it is in some form not random.  It just feels like you may not do things in a traditional sense, but you do them that way for so long that they become traditional to you.  This idea shines through on this album, "Entropy", by 2LOT because what you'll hear might not be in the normal or standard way of music but by the end you'll begin to think it is as such.

With big electro beats, 2LOT has a sound somewhere between David Guetta and Twenty One Pilots.  It just has that synth drive to it, though it can also feel like dreamy pop on "Grief".  "Human" has this big classical piano piece near the end and the movement on "Sacrifice" is just a lot of fun.  The synth sound can be very electronic, and this can have that sound of a song from a soundtrack such as "Run Lola Run", but ultimately there are these elements (such as the pianos) which make this stand out and not feel 100% like every other type of electronic sound you've heard before.

Just within the first two songs you'll hear lyrics about breaking out of a cage and not giving up.  On "Grief" there is the line "I've got to go through it"  and then at the end of the song someone (I think Dr. Phil) says: "Someone previously went through the same issue that you're going through and they made it"  Lyrically, 2LOT is going through it, but they're on the right track as evidenced by the song "Human", which says: "All I can do is try to do better".   This all comes to a head with the song "Never Knew You", which is the new single from the album, which is about thinking you knew someone and them proving you wrong.

One of the biggest take aways from this album should be the way that the music lines up with the lyrics.  I know that there are times when sad songs have sad music + sad lyrics and sometimes sad lyrics can be set to upbeat music, but 2LOT has just mastered the way of having their mood as told within the lyrics match the vibe of the music of the song.   This album is really an experience and when you come out the other side after hearing it, you won't be the same.
