Music Review // Tobey Kai "Twinkle Twinkle Mistletoe"

While there are certainly a great deal of holiday songs out there, I simply do not think that the amount of time in which there has been to make songs and the amount of songs which have stuck have been proportionate.   Tobey Kai has taken a unique voice to the song "Twinkle Twinkle Mistletoe", which is kind of like a take on "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" but with the mistletoe, which can make it feel festive for Christimas time.

"Twinkle Twinkle Mistletoe" tells the story of someone who is waiting for Santa to "wrap him up and bring him home to me".   Though I understand that this song is in a romance at sense, I don't think we talk enough about how many people just aren't home for Christmas or that you might be waiting up until that last minute for them to get home.  Whether they are in the military or just getting out of work at 5pm, it's the whole idea of someone coming home safely for Christmas which I think we can all appreciate.

The way in which the lyrics tell this story is through the power of the kisses being in the stars.   The first questions asked to this effect say "Are you looking up at the star light star bright / I hope you catch the kisses I blew to you tonight".   This continues in the chorus with "I hope you know my kisses follow you wherever you go".  To have that idea of thinking of seeing the stars and those same stars being the kisses from one person to another is something I've heard before but I definitely feel like it works.

With a strong story, pianos to start the song off and then that bass line which finds the overall holiday sound complete with the jingles, Tobey Kai has certainly created what could become a holiday classic with "Twinkle Twinkle Mistletoe".   All it really takes for this song to live on for generations to come is for it to catch on with everyone, which it very easily could, and then it's just like that feeling of Christmas magic.
