Music Review // Amanduh "Hydroplaning"
At the beginning of this song I am reminded of this driving pop sound mixed with rock, which always makes me think of Olivia Rodrigo (because of that one song) but this song by Amanduh reminds me more of rock music than pop. There is this ringing behind the notes in the chorus and the bass sounds like it's from outerspace, which adds a bit of fun.
For those who have never been hydroplaning before, it is quite the scary and exciting ride to take. When your car is driving at a certain speed, if there is water on the road, your car will lift up off of the road and glide across the water instead. This can have that type of thrill which can come with living the type of life that has the lyric in this song: "We're running on empty".
But as you listen to the song and hear lyrics such as "Why do I do this to me / Just scraping past" you'll begin to see how this song relates to the title. The idea of "Hydroplaning" can feel like fun- it can be a rush if you're out there doing it- and maybe that's the way that you live your life. But you also have no control of your car as you're doing it, so not being able to steer is also a good way to think about living that care free sort of lifestyle.
Whether you realize it or not, there might come that point in your life where you're just out of control and headed for a dead end. It's not always the easiest thing to see at times, so maybe you should listen to this song every few weeks (or more) to keep the idea fresh in the back of your mind. Just remember, "Hydroplaning" might feel like fun, but it's dangerous. As Amanduh tells us in this song, you're best off in control.
