Music Review // Jordan Astra "Honey"

With the beats and rhythmic flow the song "Honey" comes out sounding at first like The Weeknd.   But what Jordan Astra brings to this sound is much more than that, as this takes on that level of R&B which can be heard on the radio as a single but it also that something extra to it which makes it special.  Not just The Weeknd, but I think about songs like "Trap Queen" by Fetty Wap and how it can be put into a genre for convenience but overall just seems to mold and shape its own sound, as Jordan Astra does here.

"Honey" is a song about your significant other, which is a bit romantic but also uses the word in an almost literal meaning as well.   While the chorus says: "Honey / Don't you cry / You're way too sweet" it just has that roundabout way of telling someone that they're sweet like honey.  This is just that type of love song that is an appreciation of the other person, telling them to "tell me like it is" because you want to be there to help them, but there is also the honesty factor.

As we hear more and more love songs (some could argue every song is a love song) we get to the point where we feel like maybe we've heard all of the different themes already.  One of the lines which really stands out in "Honey" though is: "You know I'm supposed to make you smile".  I think that sometimes in relationships we lose sight of that and I definitely feel like it is something which is not nearly addressed enough in music today.

While it may feel like this is the type of song where a man should sing it to a woman, I feel like it has that quality of one person singing it to the other and each person in a relationship doing that.  In this way, if we take care of each other, then everything will work out for the best.  So whether you have that person who you already call "Honey" or you want to have someone to call that, then play this one loud and let the love flow.
