Music Review // Reid Parsons "Get Out of Bed"

"Get Out of Bed" begins with these soft acoustics but you can tell there is a meaningful force behind them.  It's almost as if the song itself starts with this gentle nudge, the way you might try and wake someone at first without startling them too badly.  But then as the song goes on, it kicks into this louder sound which is filled with both horns and organ tones.  As it can feel like it has that whispered "Hey buddy, it's time to get up" it can eventually turn into what the title says and feel like more of a command than a suggestion.

One of the biggest reasons why people stay in bed even though they don't need sleep, which is what this song is about, is likely depression.   If you are treated for depression by professionals though, they will tell you what this song tells you- to get out of bed- and just how things such as showering and doing routine activities can possibly give you that go ahead you need.  In a lot of ways we cannot get anything done without taking that first step and in a lot of ways, this is that first step.

To the extent of this song I also find it to be related to the idea that I get in my mind every time that I'm sick that I'm wasting time.  Granted, when I'm not sick I can very easily feel like putting things off, but as soon as I'm in bed for a day or two I think about all that time that I've missed and feel an urgency in making it up.   Rather than wonder why we didn't do the things we wanted to when we could have, we should just start taking the initiative and do them now while we can.

Reid Parsons has these organ tones in this song which can very much make it feel like gospel.   This is fitting because this can feel like a church sermon in the way that it is advising you to go out into the world and live your life.  It's motivational and hopefully can serve as a reminder for those who hear it that once you get going you'll be all right.  Sometimes you just needed that added push to get you going and this song can provide just that.
