Music Review // borza "Toujours"

"Toujours" begins with these synth tones and beats which turn into a steady drumbeat.  There is a lot going on within this song- there are layers to it- and even though vocals will come in, this is an electronic musical masterpiece.  The way that this feels like it will be electronic- and it largely is- at first is only undone later by this guitar riff coming in.  If you think of a band such as Muse being popularized for the masses then perhaps this song by Borza is more of a song for a specific type of listener, one who can better appreciate the complexities of music.

There are drop tones within this sound, synths and guitars all lined up in a row.  After some of those percussion claps the song will eventually break down into synth beats as well.  But it's that steady drumming with the guitar which makes this feels like a rock song.  It's funny how Borza has all these qualities of early Nine Inch Nails but just not the same mood.  This is more of a smooth flowing, easy going, drive through the night lights of a cool city.

During this song Borza sings in both French and English.  At one point, the lyrics say "Don't forget about you" and as you can translate the title to mean "always" it gives you an idea of what type of commitment this song is about overall.  I'd like to sit down one day with the lyrics in French and translate them into English but I also feel like something might get lost in the translation and it wouldn't completely deliver the same message.

While the lyrics are there, I feel as if overall "Toujours" is the type of song you can listen to over again many times before actually even thinking about them just because of the musical aspects of it.  Within the first five listens or so you will hear things each time you didn't hear before and then you can begin to piece them all together.  In the end you'll hear sounds you may have heard before but not used in this way, which just takes you on such an enjoyable ride that you won't ever want it to end.
