Music Review // Cardinal Black "Need More Time"
Through the use of acoustic rock with harmonica and organ keys, Cardinal Black tells a story in this song, "Need More Time", about one of the things which many people in the world today seem to lack: patience. Right now, in the year 2025, it feels like everything is so easily accessible and at our fingertips. People can do things almost instantly and even then, they'll get bored just as quickly. With a sound similar to Bruce Springsteen and John Mellencamp, Cardinal Black reminds us that sometimes waiting isn't the worst thing.
The chorus simply says "And if you need more time / I'll be waiting right here". We live in a world where it feels like everyone wants to rush decisions, wants to have everything done as quickly as possible and it's just so refreshing to feel like we're going to take our time with this one. The patience in this song though is likely about a relationship where one person needs to think about it, as there is a line "I'll keep telling you what you wanna hear / I can't help it if you only hear hate".
During the music video for this song you can see what I believe is the band driving around. I've always thought about the things in life which we have to do- which take up so much time- but they are the things which you don't see in television, movies or books. It's the things like sleeping, eating and waiting. Sometimes that waiting can be done while driving. It may take you two hours to drive somewhere, but a movie will cut it into a new scene in seconds. So I do enjoy that this song takes the time in the music video to appreciate the drive.
As "Need More Time" can feel like it is about patience, it is also just about the idea of waiting. Not enough people are left waiting these days and it is something which we can learn from. To put this song on and just do nothing while listening to it- drive around without anywhere to go- and just take things easier and slow down. Moderately paced is the tempo of the music, but the point of it all seems to be to go much slower.
