Music Review // El Balcón "Errante"

El Balcón has such a unique sound that it becomes difficult to describe, but after listening to the album "Errante", you'll begin to easily enough recognize this sound as their own.  There is an undeniable energy to these songs, a fire in ways, and that fuels this entire album.  Musically, the different instruments you will hear will present a sound that makes you feel as the artist wishes you to feel, but this is an album about more than just the sound.

The titular track- "El errante"- has more acoustic almost music box type sound to it.  It's the quieter of the songs on the album, as the vocals can even feel like they were recorded as bedroom pop.  But yet, it doesn't lose the focus of the entire album.  "Enredada" can almost begin to feel like a cross between a salsa and something from the film "Desperado", while "La pradera" has has these sneaky spy acoustics.

Overall this album is rather intense.  It has a way about it that grabs you.  If you were to happen upon El Balcón in a setting where they were playing live, this album is proof that they would be the only thing you paid attention to.  At times the vocals feel like sing along choruses, with more than one person singing at a time, and by "Pauline" you will hear a most beautiful violin solo, showcasing that range of sound.

At times, El Balcón can come through with their sound like a city-leveling hurricane.  And yet, at other times it can feel like the soft patter of a rain that you can barely tell is on you but somehow you can sense it is there.  However you choose to listen to this album, it's going to make you feel something for sure and more importantly perhaps it will get into your head in a way which makes you want to keep listening to it.
