Music Review // Rogue Rising "CRUSH"

Right away Rogue Rising has a unique sound.  This isn't the type of song you hear and then immediately start bringing about comparisons with other artists because there are very distinct vocals and the music just spans several genres, which are all rock based.  To some underlying extent I feel like this song is punk, but there is also enough heaviness that I feel like it could be close to metal as well.  The only band I can think of this kind of reminds me of is No Motiv and that's saying a lot because it's not often you hear something new in rock.

This song is lyrically about the physical act of crushing as in the verb not the way that someone likes someone else.  It's interesting because of the lines "Am I living an illusion? / There's no winning, no solution" and then later on "Love and hate drive me insane".   It just feels like, based on the chorus as well, that this person has had their hopes and dreams crushed by someone or something and that's what this is about.

During this music video the main guitarist/singer makes their way around places before finding the rest of the band and having a show on stage.  This is a good old fashioned music video in the sense that it just makes the band look cool and it makes it feel like you want to go and see them live as well.   There is also a lot going on here within the emotions of the song and how that translates to the video (and guitar solos) and it just all comes together, feeling crushed.

One of my favorite lines in this song says "Put your pain in a song / The world will sing along".   I feel like it's one of life's cruel jokes in the sense that pain is something we can all share.  Who among us has not been hurt?   You should definitely be listening to this song for its fresh take on rock music, but also if you've ever felt like you've been down and defeated then "CRUSH" is also something you can relate with lyrically.
