Music Review // evvvie "Sweet Dreams"
As the song "Sweet Dreams" begins there are just tones being played with the vocals. I imagine this as being someone jumping around on clouds and as the clouds light up they also make these sounds. Eventually, evvvie kicks in the sound with full on drums and a rock/pop sound which can remind me of everything from No Doubt to Sabrina Carpenter (and most things in between as well).
What I appreciate most about this song is how it can feel like one thing on the surface but if you pay close enough attention and get the song it's really quite the opposite. There is one set of lyrics in "Sweet Dreams" that says: "You ask me / You said I wanna know / All of your fantasies / Yeah, tell me real slow". This is that stage of the relationship where you discuss with the other person what you each want and you feel like, on some level, they might promise to give it to you because that's why you're together.
On the surface, in that way, if you'd like to, you could see this song simply as a promise of devotion-- it could be a sort of sweet love song. But if you listen to the lyrics and really understand them, there is this point where they talk about being together and also talk about being apart. So when the tone shifts to being away, that's when the truth is revealed and the chorus has the line: "But they're just dreams". This just shows that people can promise whatever they want to, but it's about the actions of showing that they're actually going to follow through.
Some of the words which can be used to describe this song in its sound are sweet, non-threatening and just overall chill. But the lyrics within the song present the same type of spirit as something by an artist which can come out much angrier. This makes me feel like some people are going to take this song in different ways, but that is how art is meant to be. You will find something personal to take away from this song and sometimes that's all that matters.
